Circuit Court in Accra has sentenced Christopher Kofi Okyere Sorkpa, a self-proclaimed preacher, to five years in prison for vandalizing vehicles belonging to Members of Parliament at the Parliament House.
The incident, which occurred earlier this week, saw Sorkpa deliberately smashing the windshields and damaging multiple cars parked within the parliamentary premises. Eyewitnesses reported that he appeared agitated and claimed he was on a mission from God, sparking concerns about his mental state.
Security personnel quickly apprehended him, and the damaged vehicles were later assessed to determine the extent of the destruction. In court, Sorkpa pleaded guilty to charges of causing unlawful damage and was convicted on his plea.
During sentencing, the presiding judge emphasized the need to uphold law and order, particularly within sensitive and high-security areas such as Parliament. The court also took into account the significant financial loss incurred by the vehicle owners and the disruption caused by Sorkpa’s actions.
