Free dialysis treatment now available at 20 health facilities nationwide
Starting today, 20 health facilities across Ghana will provide free dialysis treatment to patients with kidney issues, following the successful pilot of the program over the past six months.
The initiative, announced by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), aims to benefit around 1,200 patients nationwide, with plans to expand to more facilities in the future.
The selected facilities include major hospitals such as Hart Adventist Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, among others.
Patients registered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will have access to up to eight free dialysis sessions per month at these accredited centers, with the NHIS covering the GH¢491 cost per session.
To support this initiative, the government, in partnership with the World Bank, has secured 45 dialysis machines for use at the selected facilities.
The NHIA also announced a GH¢200 million payment to health facilities for claims submitted in September and October 2024, bringing the total payments in the past two months to GH¢1 billion. This reflects the NHIA’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare services in Ghana.
