Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team ended a 52-year wait for a Commonwealth Games medal after securing bronze at the 2026 Games in Glasgow.
The quartet of Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, Bopkin and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu clocked 38.13 seconds in the final on August 1 to secure third place and return Ghana to the Commonwealth relay podium for the first time since 1974.
Ghana had previously won relay medals at the Commonwealth Games in 1962, 1966 and 1974, making the latest achievement a significant milestone for the country’s athletics team.
Australia claimed gold after Josh Azzopardi, Lachlan Kennedy, Calab Law and Rohan Browning finished in 38.07 seconds from lane eight.
Nigeria initially crossed the line in second place, recording 38.11 seconds, but secured silver following Canada’s disqualification.
Ghana’s impressive 38.13-second performance was therefore enough to earn the bronze medal and end the country’s long Commonwealth Games relay medal drought.
