The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Monday, August 4, 2025, will not be observed as a public holiday.
In a statement released on Thursday, July 31, 2025, the Ministry explained that this clarification is in accordance with the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Act, 2025, which outlines the officially recognized holidays for the year as approved by the President.
This comes amid growing public speculation about whether August 4, formerly observed as Founders’ Day would be declared a holiday.
The Ministry emphasized that only dates listed in the official 2025 calendar qualify as statutory holidays, and August 4 is not among them.
The public, including businesses and institutions, is therefore advised to treat Monday, August 4, as a regular working day and proceed with normal activities.
