Legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has argued that former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo should not be stripped of her retirement benefits despite losing her position, insisting that her predecessors committed similar infractions without losing their entitlements.
Martin Kpebu noted that previous audit reports had flagged questionable payments under earlier chief justices, some of whom were asked to refund money, yet none were denied their benefits.
“For me, losing the office was sufficient punishment. But to lose her benefits, too, was like overkill,” he said on Joy Fm, adding that negotiations could have been explored to allow her to keep her entitlements.
Martin Kpebu dismissed claims that the absence of malicious intent absolves the former Chief Justice, stressing that reckless conduct is enough to trigger legal consequences.
He expressed concern over the unequal treatment of similar cases, pointing out that others who engaged in the same practices were never sanctioned.
“It really wrenches my heart because we all know this thing has been there for years. Others probably abused it more than her, but they got off. I still think we could do something for her,” he stated.

The reset agenda must start with punishment about some of these corrupt state officials as a chief justice she knows what to do when was in office but she was assured by the then government they will continue to be in power hence their arrogance attitude to good governance
