President John Dramani Mahama has expressed a strong belief in Ghana’s economic recovery efforts, noting that the country will achieve a ‘remarkable economic turnaround’ that will draw applause from the international community by the end of 2026.
According to him, the economic improvements during his first year in office surpassed expectations, as he had initially projected two-year minimum period before any significant economic changes.
“In my own imagination, I thought that we would need about two years to begin to see a turnaround but this is how far God has brought us…I am sure by the end of 2026, the whole world will stand and be clapping for Ghana,” he remarked at the First Sky Construction Company’s 23rd anniversary and thanksgiving service on Sunday, January 25.
President Mahama further pointed to the stabilization of the cedi against major foreign currencies, consistent drops in inflation, and other key macroeconomic indicators as signs of a stable economic recovery process.
“To bring inflation from 23.8% to 5.4% in one year, how did we manage that?” he expressed. “The cedi which has also appreciated remarkably, about 37% in the same year, we can only attribute this success to divine grace.”
The President emphasized that Ghana’s progress is a result of effective leadership and spiritual guidance, sharing the commitment of his administration to maintaining the current momentum.
“We are committed to maintaining and improving these achievements, we will make sure that the gains in the first year are maintained and carried beyond the years to come,” he assured, and disclosed that his administration will hold a national thanksgiving event to honor God for the achievements accomplished under his leadership, and to “celebrate the country’s steady development so far.”
