The World Health Organization (WHO) has reaffirmed its commitment to boosting support for breast cancer patients in Ghana, with a focus on expanding access to life-saving treatment and reinforcing the country’s healthcare system.
Addressing a meeting in Accra on Wednesday, February 4, Dr. Joana Ansong, in charge of non-communicable diseases and mental health, drew attention to the major obstacles patients face in obtaining prompt and effective care.
She noted that many women endure a challenging journey to recovery, stressing the pressing need for stronger and more coordinated healthcare interventions.
The meeting, organised by the Ministry of Health together with partners Pfizer and Jhpiego, centred on exploring practical solutions to enhance care and support for people living with breast cancer.
Dr. Ansong added that WHO will continue to support Africa, especially Ghana, through evidence-based global and regional programmes, including initiatives to eliminate cervical cancer and promote integrated cancer services for women.
