A shocking incident in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District has left a community reeling after a 62-year-old woman was killed and her daughter seriously injured in what police describe as a brutal cutlass attack.
The victim, Baby Abienor, was allegedly assaulted by her co-tenant, 30-year-old Hormeku Agbemor, at Twifo Denyase Camp on the morning of Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Her daughter, identified as Gladys, sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu.
Eyewitnesses say the suspect suddenly turned violent, inflicting multiple machete wounds on both women. Abienor died instantly from her injuries, while Gladys was rushed first to a nearby CHPS compound before being transferred to hospital due to the seriousness of her condition.
Police investigators arrived at the scene to find Abienor’s body lying face down in a pool of blood inside a wooden structure belonging to The Apostolic Church, Ghana. Officers later discovered the lifeless body of the suspect about 15 metres away, his hands and legs bound with rope and blood visible on his face. Authorities suspect he may have been lynched by irate residents following the attack.
Preliminary accounts suggest Agbemor had begun exhibiting abnormal behaviour and verbally attacking the victims earlier that morning. Abienor reportedly attempted to alert a church elder about the situation. By the time the elder arrived, she was already dead, and the suspect was seen holding a cutlass and pleading for forgiveness after allegedly confessing to the killing.
The elder quickly informed the Assembly Member and other residents, but before they returned, Agbemor was found dead nearby, apparently attacked by community members.
Police have documented the crime scene and conveyed both bodies to the Twifo Atti-Morkwa Hospital morgue for autopsy. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
