A devastating fire in Sefwi Adjoafua, Western North Region, has left one man dead and a family home reduced to ashes. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed that 70-year-old Kwasi Nkansah lost his life when flames engulfed a two-bedroom house with an adjoining kitchen on Monday, February 16.
Responding crews faced significant challenges as heavy rainfall and poor road conditions slowed their arrival. Despite the obstacles, firefighters managed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties, averting what could have been a wider disaster.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire. Investigators are expected to examine the scene in the coming days to establish what sparked the deadly incident.
In the aftermath, the GNFS issued a strong appeal for vigilance in fire safety, particularly in households with vulnerable individuals. The Service urged residents to adopt preventive habits and act quickly in emergencies.
“Stay safe: supervise the vulnerable, practise fire safety, and report emergencies immediately,” the Service advised.
The incident has cast a shadow over the Sefwi Adjoafua community, where residents are grappling with the sudden loss of Mr. Nkansah and the destruction of a family home. Local leaders have joined calls for greater awareness of fire risks, stressing that prevention remains the most effective safeguard against such tragedies.
