President John Dramani Mahama has been formally notified that petitions seeking the removal of the Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission, her Deputies, and the Special Prosecutor have failed to establish a prima facie case.
According to a statement from the Presidency on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, seven petitions were submitted against the leadership of the Electoral Commission, while three targeted the Special Prosecutor. In line with constitutional provisions, the President referred the matters to the Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, for an initial legal assessment.
Following the review, the Chief Justice informed the President in a letter dated January 26, 2026, that none of the petitions met the threshold for triggering further investigations or removal proceedings.
The announcement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirms that the Electoral Commission leadership and the Special Prosecutor will remain in office, bringing closure to weeks of public speculation surrounding the petitions.
