Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has confirmed that no Ghanaian casualty has been recorded as the United States and Israel’s military campaign against Iran enters its fifth day.
In a Facebook update on Monday, March 3, Ablakwa disclosed that he had convened an emergency virtual meeting with Ghana’s Ambassadors and Consuls General stationed across Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, and Turkey, to assess the security situation in the region and to co-ordinate a government response.
“I am glad to report that so far no Ghanaian has been killed or injured,” Ablakwa wrote. “We have put together a reliable database of all Ghanaians in these countries including those who were on short visits and those who were transiting.”
The post noted that each of the seven Heads of Mission has been tasked with identifying Ghanaians within their stationed countries who want to be evacuated for “urgent consideration.”
“Our diplomatic missions are currently assisting a considerable number of Ghanaians escape across certain strategic border crossings…the safety and welfare of all Ghanaians remain our utmost priority,” Ablakwa added.
The conflict in the Middle East enters its fifth day with no clear end in sight after U.S President Trump said on Monday that the war “could last weeks.”
