The Ghana Police Service has announced temporary road closures in parts of Accra on Friday, March 6, 2026, ahead of activities marking the country’s 69th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement, police said the closures are necessary to facilitate the celebration scheduled to take place at Jubilee House. Roads expected to be affected include Liberation Road from the Opeibea Intersection towards the Central Business District, Independence Avenue at the Ako Adjei By-pass, and Jawaharlal Nehru Road.
According to the police, the affected roads will be reopened to traffic once the event concludes. Motorists travelling along Liberation Road have been advised to use Kaokudi Road through the Kanda Highway to connect to Barnes Road towards the Central Business District, or divert through Giffard Road towards Osu.
Drivers using Independence Avenue will also be redirected through the Kanda Highway to Ring Road Central and then proceed to the 37 Intersection and other destinations.
Police further cautioned that vehicles will not be permitted to park at unauthorised locations along the affected routes. Security vehicles and those transporting dignitaries will be granted access after undergoing necessary security checks.
Traffic officers will be deployed to manage diversions and guide motorists to designated car parks, while towing vehicles will be on standby to remove abandoned, disabled, or wrongly parked vehicles. Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with officers on duty to ensure smooth traffic management throughout the celebrations.
