Two Ghanaian soldiers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have been critically wounded and a third left traumatized after the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters in Southern Lebanon came under a double missile attack on Friday, the Ghana Armed Forces have confirmed.
According to a statement from GAF on Friday, the Ghanaian battalion’s headquarters compound was struck twice in quick succession, between 17:45 and 17:52 hours local time, as fresh exchanges between the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group intensified across the conflict zone.
The attack destroyed the Officers’ Mess facility at the base, which was engulfed in flames and burned to the ground. Two Ghanaian soldiers sustained critical injuries, while a third peacekeeper suffered psychological trauma, the statement revealed.
It added that the wounded officers are currently being stabilized at a Level One Medical Bunker on-site and have been declared stable, confirming that evacuation arrangements to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital were underway.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Ambassador to Ghana, Ambassador Roey Gilad, has responded to the incident, describing it as a catastrophic and tragic event.
“This is indeed a tragic event. We send wishes of speedy recovery to the three soldiers,” he shared on Friday.
The ambassador emphasized that the IDF is actively working to “identify the source of the fire.”
The strikes come as the war in the Middle East enters day 7, following continuous exchange of missiles and armed drones between the U.S-Israel and Iran, Iran-backed proxy Hezbollah and allied forces, with Southern Lebanon becoming one of the most active fronts in a larger regional confrontation.
