The Ghana Police Service has apprehended 15 individuals suspected of drug trafficking during coordinated operations in Tamale and Savelugu, as part of intensified efforts to combat narcotics in the Northern Region.
The raids were conducted by the Northern Regional Special Operations Team, known as “Red Maria,” on the night of March 17 and into the early hours of March 18.
Police confirmed that the operation, led by Superintendent John Danso and ASP Rashid Jeremiah, involved a total of 35 officers.
A police report indicated that the team first carried out a raid in Choggu, Tamale, where nine suspects were found with suspected narcotic substances. The operation then moved to Savelugu around 5 a.m., leading to the arrest of six more suspects.
All 15 individuals are now in police custody and are cooperating with investigations. Authorities said the crackdown is part of ongoing measures to curb drug trafficking and related crimes in the region.
