Candidates preparing for the 2026 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination have been asked to adjust their plans by a single day, following an announcement by the National Teaching Council that the examination’s start date has been moved to accommodate an upcoming public holiday.
The GTLE, which had been scheduled to begin on Monday, March 23, 2026, will now commence on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. The NTC issued the notice on Monday, March 16, explaining that the original start date falls on a statutory public holiday, making the adjustment both necessary and straightforward.
Importantly, the one-day shift does not affect any other aspect of the examination. All other arrangements remain in place, and the revised timetable runs as follows: General Professional Knowledge on Tuesday, March 24; Grade-Level Specialism Pedagogy on Wednesday, March 25; and Multiple Subjects Content or Single Subjects Specialism on Thursday, March 26.
The Council expressed regret for any inconvenience the change may cause and appealed to candidates for their understanding and cooperation. Prospective teachers have been advised to monitor the NTC’s official communication channels, including its website, for any further updates ahead of the examinations.
The Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination is a mandatory requirement for all individuals seeking professional certification to teach in Ghana, a cornerstone of the country’s effort to uphold and improve quality standards across the education sector. For the thousands of candidates who have been preparing for this week’s sitting, the message from the NTC is clear: nothing has changed except the date you walk through the door.
