A Level 400 Petroleum Engineering student at the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani has reportedly died from suspected poisoning, according to the university.
The deceased, identified as Godfred Akomaning, is said to have passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, while undergoing treatment at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.
In a statement signed by Deputy Registrar and Head of the University Relations Office, Alfred Ohenenana Appiah, management disclosed that a medical report from the hospital confirmed organophosphate poisoning as the cause of death.
The university further stated that the student’s family has been informed, and the body has been deposited at the mortuary of the Sefwi Anwiaso Community Hospital.
Management expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family and the university community. It also noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death, with assurances that further updates will be provided once confirmed.
