An early morning fire at the Suhum Market was swiftly contained by firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service, preventing what could have been a major disaster.
The incident occurred on Thursday, March 26, when a container positioned at the entrance of the market caught fire. A six-member crew from the Suhum Fire Station responded immediately after receiving an emergency alert and managed to extinguish the flames within minutes. Their rapid intervention stopped the blaze from spreading to other stalls and shops in the busy market area.
Investigators say the fire likely started during welding work inside the container, where hot metal came into contact with wooden material. While the container suffered partial damage, no injuries were reported.
The GNFS has since reminded traders and artisans to observe strict safety measures when working in market environments, stressing that negligence during activities such as welding can easily spark fires in areas filled with combustible materials.
