The Oti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Alex Acquah, has visited Nkwanta in the Nkwanta South Municipality to engage residents and security personnel following recent violent incidents that claimed lives and destroyed property.
According to a police release issued on Friday, March 27, the visit, which took place a day earlier, was part of efforts to strengthen security, reassure the community, and promote peace in the wake of the attacks. DCOP Acquah first met with police personnel in the area, urging them to remain vigilant and uphold discipline and professionalism in their duties.

He later led a joint security delegation comprising officers from the Police Service, the Military, the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), and Defence Intelligence to the Zongo community, where they met the Zongo Chief, Alhaji Issaka Kayaba, and his elders. During the meeting, the Commander conveyed condolences on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Management Board to the community, acknowledging the loss of three adult male members in the recent violence.

Alhaji Kayaba assured the delegation of the community’s commitment to peace and unity, stressing that residents would avoid reprisals and work toward maintaining harmony. The Police Command noted that the chief gave firm assurances of non-retaliation and coexistence.
As part of the visit, DCOP Acquah also inspected the site of a previous arson attack at Dadaga, where two people lost their lives, to assess the situation and guide further security measures. The Command emphasized that it continues to monitor developments closely and is working with other security agencies to maintain stability in the area.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security personnel. The Command also cautioned against the spread of false information, warning that it could worsen tensions. A statement signed by DSP John Nchor, Public Affairs Officer for the Oti Region, reiterated the call for restraint and urged the public to avoid actions that could escalate the situation further.
