A controversial AI-generated image posted by Donald Trump that depicted him in a Jesus-like pose has been removed from his Truth Social account, roughly 12 hours after it first appeared, with the White House yet to explain why.
The image showed the US president dressed in a white robe, his glowing hand pressed to the forehead of a sick man lying in a hospital bed, a composition critics immediately likened to classical religious paintings of Jesus healing the sick. The backdrop featured an array of patriotic symbols, including the Statue of Liberty, a large American flag, fighter jets, an eagle, a nurse, a woman in prayer, and what appeared to be a uniformed soldier.

The backlash was swift and, notably, came from voices considered close to Trump himself. Christian activist Sean Feucht, who is collaborating with the administration on faith-based events to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, was among the first to call for its removal. “This should be deleted immediately,” he wrote, adding: “There’s no context where this is acceptable.”
The post drew condemnation from across the political spectrum, with supporters and critics alike expressing discomfort at the imagery. The BBC has contacted the White House for comment on the reasons behind the deletion.
The episode is made more striking by its timing. The image was posted just hours after Trump published a lengthy attack on Pope Leo XIV, accusing the pontiff of being weak on crime and foreign policy following the Pope’s vocal opposition to the US-Israeli military operation in Iran, a sequence that placed questions of faith, presidential authority, and religious symbolism in sharp and uncomfortable proximity.
