Kristo Asafo demands enforcement of burial injunction
A fresh dispute has emerged over arrangements for the burial of the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, with the church leadership accusing security agencies of failing to enforce a court order intended to halt funeral-related activities at its Gomoa Mpota facility.
The church says concerns are mounting among its members after reports of ongoing burial preparations at the Apostle Safo Suaye Centre despite an injunction obtained through the courts.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Mission stressed that neither its leadership nor its governing bodies had sanctioned any funeral or burial ceremony connected to the late founder. It maintained that all official structures of the church remain aligned with Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena and are not participating in the activities being reported.
The church argued that authorities had been formally notified of the court order and should have taken steps to prevent any action that could undermine ongoing legal proceedings.
Church leaders also expressed concern about the security of properties under the Mission’s control, including the Apostle Safo Suaye Centre and its museum complex. According to the statement, recent developments have heightened fears over possible unauthorised access to the facilities.
The Mission said the situation has become more complicated following restrictions on its internal security operations, leaving it dependent on state institutions for the protection of church property.
While insisting that members remain committed to peaceful conduct, the leadership warned that frustration is growing among followers who believe legal directives are not being adequately enforced.
The statement further introduced a controversial claim that there could be attempts to conduct burial arrangements without the founder’s actual remains. The church said it would continue to demand what it described as a proper and dignified burial for its founder regardless of any developments.
No public response had been issued by former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo regarding the allegations at the time of publication.
