ShattaFest UK cancelled after stampede, overcrowding

ShattaFest in the United Kingdom has been cancelled after police intervened over serious safety concerns linked to overcrowding and a reported stampede.

UK police said the event was brought to an end after the venue exceeded its authorised capacity, creating a significant risk to public safety.

Organisers, Ghana Party in the Park, confirmed the disruption and advised attendees not to travel to the festival grounds while emergency services dealt with the situation.

In a statement, the organisers said a “major incident” had occurred at the venue and that the festival had been temporarily suspended.

They urged members of the public to stay away from the area to allow emergency responders and other authorities to safely manage the situation, promising to provide further updates.

The organisers had not immediately indicated whether the festival would be rescheduled or whether ticket holders would be refunded.

ShattaFest was scheduled to feature Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale as one of its main performers and was expected to attract thousands of fans from across the UK and beyond.

Authorities had yet to confirm whether anyone was injured or arrested in connection with the incident.

A UK police officer captured on video confirming the cancellation said the venue had experienced a major incident involving a stampede, with several people reportedly injured, making it necessary to shut down the event to protect public safety.
