The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has dismissed a statement from the Ministry that the WASSCE results will be released on 29 December, 2024.
The examination council has withheld results of this year’s WASSCE as a result of 118 million cedis owed it but the government has paid about 50 million Ghana cedis of the amount. The Minister of Education had told the media that an agreement had been reached to release the results on 29 Dec but WAEC has described the Minister’s statement as scandalous.
Director of Public Affairs of WAEC, John Kapi told Starr FM in a interview that no such agreement was reached figuring a visit by the Minister to the premises of WAEC.
He said the Minister was taken round the offices and shown some broken machines which needed to be fixed.
He said there was no discussion with the Minister on the way forward so it was surprising to hear about the 29 December date.
“This is scandalous because really why are we toying with people’s future,” he quizzed.
“I didn’t want to to go to that area but I tell you we also have staff whose children have written the examinations , and we are all waiting to have this resolved,” he stated.
