NPP to present “True State of the Nation Address” on March 4

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will deliver its own version of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on March 4, 2025, in response to President John Dramani Mahama’s address on February 27.

According to the NPP, the President’s address did not fully reflect the realities on the ground, leaving out crucial national concerns. The party claims that Ghanaians deserve a more accurate and transparent account of the country’s current state, which it intends to provide through what it calls the “True State of the Nation Address.”

Among the issues the NPP says were overlooked are worsening electricity supply, rising security concerns, the resurgence of illegal mining and its violent consequences, and the cancellation of public sector recruitments, which has deepened unemployment. The party argues that these pressing matters should have been addressed but were either downplayed or ignored.

“The State of the Nation Address should give a full and honest picture of where the country stands, but the President’s speech fell short,” the NPP stated.

The party’s alternative address will be delivered by its parliamentary leadership, led by Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin. The NPP says this initiative is aimed at ensuring accountability and keeping Ghanaians informed about the true state of affairs in the country.
