Police have arrested several individuals posing as security personnel at the Awoshie DVLA polling station in the Ablekuma North Constituency, where a parliamentary election rerun is currently underway.
The suspects, who were dressed in brown uniforms resembling those of state security agencies, reportedly failed to properly identify themselves when questioned by officers on duty. They were immediately taken to the Odorkor Police Station for further interrogation.
Eyewitnesses say the individuals were stationed near the entrance of the polling center, raising suspicion among voters and security officials deployed to oversee the rerun. Their inability to provide valid identification prompted their swift arrest.
Speaking to Citi News, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ga West and Dean of MMDCEs in the Greater Accra Region, John Desmond Nii Sowah Nai, confirmed the arrests. He noted that preliminary checks suggest the individuals may not belong to any recognised state security agency.
The police have launched investigations to determine the identities of the suspects and their motives for appearing at the polling station in uniform during the voting process.
The rerun in Ablekuma North involves over 6,000 eligible voters and is being closely monitored due to the high stakes and narrow margins between the two leading candidates.
