Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has donated GH¢100,000 to the family of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, in support of preparations towards his funeral. The gesture was made during the one-week observation ceremony held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra.
Originally slated for the University of Ghana Stadium, the venue was changed due to a noise-making ban in the La Traditional Area. Despite the change, the event drew large crowds of loyal fans, family, industry players, and dignitaries, all gathered to honor the memory of one of Ghana’s greatest music icons.
Born Charles Kwadwo Fosu on September 29, 1964, in Nsuta, Ashanti Region, Daddy Lumba passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60, after a short illness at The Bank Hospital in Cantonments, Accra.
The commemoration was filled with soulful performances of Daddy Lumba’s timeless hits, including Aben Wo Ha, Sika Asem, and Theresa, leaving fans both nostalgic and emotional.
The event, jointly organized by the Creative Arts Agency and the Fosu family, forms part of a series of activities lined up to celebrate Daddy Lumba’s extraordinary life and musical legacy.
Further details of the final funeral rites in Kumasi are expected to be announced in the coming days.
