Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has linked the death of the party’s former parliamentary candidate for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi, to a court case filed against him by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr. Bawumia claimed that the legal battle and what he described as intimidation from the NDC took a toll on Mr. Kumi’s health.
“The NDC’s court case against the late Ernest Kumi, coupled with intimidation, caused him sleeplessness and raised his pressure. Twenty-six days after the court’s final verdict, he died,” Dr. Bawumia told the gathering in Twi during a visit to Wenchi in the Bono Region
The NPP flagbearer made these comments while leading a delegation of party executives and some minority members of parliament to pay a courtesy call on the Wenchi Chief. The engagement formed part of activities to rally support for the NPP’s candidate, Solomon Asumadu, in the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
Dr. Bawumia called on residents to back Mr Asumadu, stressing that the NPP is determined to sustain the country’s development agenda.
The Wenchi stop is among a series of campaign tours by NPP leadership as the party prepares for by-elections and works to maintain its parliamentary seats.
Dr. Bawumia, who recently filed his nomination to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections, is also using these regional visits to consolidate support within the party.
