Former Finance Minister and MP for Karaga, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has praised President John Mahama’s speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) but questioned its relevance to Ghana’s situation.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Adam described the delivery as truly commendable, highlighting Mahama’s focus on global concerns.
“President Mahama’s address at the 80th United Nations General Assembly was truly commendable, particularly his insights on pressing global issues such as immigration, financing for development, the Middle East conflict, and climate change,” he wrote.
He further noted that the President’s poise and delivery underscored his stature on the world stage.
However, Dr. Adam drew a sharp contrast with local realities.
“It’s important how such a well-articulated vision and approach to international development translates to national development in Ghana, particularly as the reset economy is not resetting, whilst galamsey is out of control and free speech is being murdered,” he stated.
Despite his concerns, the former Finance Minister ended on a hopeful note: “Let’s hope his leadership principles and global perspectives inform his decision-making for the benefit of Ghana’s development. Best wishes to you, Mr. President.”
