Authorities in Ghana’s Western Region are investigating Edward Senam Azaliko, Assembly Member for Effiakuma West, after a viral video surfaced showing him allegedly coercing two teenagers into sexual activity as a form of “punishment.”
According to reports aired on Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show, the Assembly Member confronted a 13‑year‑old girl and a 16‑year‑old boy in what he described as a “compromising situation.” He then allegedly forced them into an uncompleted building, threatening violence if they did not comply.
The disturbing footage, which has circulated widely on social media, shows the teenagers being intimidated while bystanders recorded the incident.
When contacted, Azaliko admitted his role but claimed his actions were intended to discipline the minors for engaging in a relationship at their age. His explanation has been met with widespread condemnation from child rights advocates and community leaders.
The matter has since been reported to the Ghana Police Service, which is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine appropriate legal action.
The case has sparked outrage across the Western Region, with calls for accountability and stronger protections for minors. Advocacy groups have emphasized that coercion and abuse cannot be justified under the guise of discipline, urging authorities to send a clear message that such conduct will not be tolerated.
