A devastating fire has razed a 14-bedroom house in Kwame Danso, Sene West District of the Bono East Region, displacing several households and leaving one person seriously injured.
Eyewitnesses said the blaze began in a locked room, trapping its occupant, before spreading rapidly through the building. Neighbours attempted to contain the flames but were overwhelmed by its intensity. The injured victim was later transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The Ghana National Fire Service confirmed the incident, with officer Adjei Nti Samuel explaining that firefighters had to improvise due to the absence of a fire tender in the area. Crews relied on a DRIP water tanker and private suppliers to battle the inferno.
Residents expressed frustration at the lack of adequate firefighting resources, noting that the destruction could have been minimized if equipment had been readily available. “We did what we could, but without proper support, the fire consumed everything,” one displaced resident said.
The incident underscores the vulnerability of communities in rural districts where fire service infrastructure is limited. For families who lost their homes, the challenge now shifts from survival to rebuilding, as they grapple with the loss of property and the trauma of displacement.
