Ghana’s crude oil output has continued its downward trend, declining for the sixth straight year, from a peak of 71.4 million barrels to 37.3 million barrels in 2025. This reflects an average annual drop of 9%.
These figures are detailed in the 2025 Annual Report released by the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC).
Speaking at the presentation of the report’s highlights on Wednesday, April 8, PIAC Chairman Richard Ellimah called on the government to deepen its collaboration with the Petroleum Commission to attract more investment into the sector and help reverse the decline.
He noted that the sustained drop in production should be a matter of national concern, emphasising that output has steadily fallen over the past six years.
Mr. Ellimah also recommended that the government, working through the Petroleum Commission, establish a strategic framework to encourage investment in existing oil fields, particularly the TEN field, where production has fallen short of expectations.
Additionally, he urged authorities to implement measures that would draw in fresh investment to stabilise and eventually boost oil production in the country.
