The Ghana Police Service has rescued a nine-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped from Agormanya Zongo in the Odumase-Krobo District of the Eastern Region, and arrested a female suspect linked to the case.
In a statement, the Eastern Regional Police Command said the arrest was carried out on Monday, April 20, 2026, after the girl’s father reported a day earlier that his daughter had gone missing after leaving home.
Police explained that intelligence-led investigations enabled officers from the Odumase-Krobo District Command, with assistance from the Bureau of National Investigations at the Kotoka International Airport, to apprehend the suspect, identified as Regina Mamle Tawiah, 36.
The child was found at the airport, where preliminary findings indicate the suspect was attempting to send her to Kenya.
She has since been reunited with her father.
The suspect was arraigned before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court on Tuesday, April 21, where she pleaded not guilty. She has been remanded in police custody and is expected to return to court on May 5, 2026, for a case management conference.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has advised the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
