The 22-year-old defender came through surgery successfully after the knee injury he picked up in March threatened to derail what had been a quietly impressive season. Amoah had been having a strong campaign, 23 appearances, nine goals from right-back, before a heavy challenge in the 19th minute of the Young Apostles match ended his involvement for the year. Doctors confirmed an ACL tear alongside a medial meniscus injury. The surgery has gone well, but he will not kick a ball again this season.
For Kotoko, the good news stops there.
The club that once set the standard in Ghanaian football is currently sixth in the Premier League table, 10 points behind Medeama SC, with little sign of a turnaround on the horizon. The rot has already claimed one managerial casualty, interim coach Prince Owusu walked away as the results refused to improve and youth trainer Hamza Obeng has been handed the unenviable task of seeing out the campaign.
Next up is a date with Dreams FC, a side Kotoko can ill afford to slip up against if they want to salvage any pride from what has become a deeply forgettable season.
