The Cyber Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters has arrested a 36-year-old entrepreneur over allegations of non-consensual sharing of intimate images and online sexual exploitation.
The suspect, Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, a resident of East Legon in Accra, was picked up on May 6, 2026, following a coordinated intelligence-led operation involving the Cyber Crime Unit and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
Briefing the media on Tuesday, May 12, CID Director-General Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor said investigations showed the suspect allegedly ran a Telegram platform called “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025”.
She explained that the suspect is believed to have used alprazolam (commonly known as Xanax) to drug unsuspecting women before sexually abusing them, recording the acts, and sharing the footage online without their consent.
Police investigations further suggest that in 2025, he frequently visited nightclubs where he allegedly sedated victims before assaulting them and distributing their private images on digital platforms.
During the arrest, officers retrieved several items including two iPhones, a basic mobile phone, a memory card, a Seagate external hard drive, a MacBook laptop, an iSafe device, and empty sachets suspected to have contained alprazolam and midazolam.
The Police Service said the seized electronic devices are undergoing forensic analysis, while the substances are being forwarded to the Food and Drugs Authority for testing and classification.
Commissioner Donkor confirmed that the suspect has been arraigned in court, with investigations still ongoing.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to combating online sexual exploitation and urged the public to report any suspicious activity through official channels.
