The Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has criticised the manner in which a corpse was transported in a viral video circulating on social media, describing the act as a violation of accepted funeral and public health standards.
In a statement issued on May 11, 2026, the agency said the footage, believed to have been recorded in Ghana’s Oti Region, showed a deceased person being conveyed on a motorcycle in a manner it considered disrespectful and unsafe.
According to MoFFA, the transportation of human remains must be handled with dignity and carried out only through approved means such as hearses or specially designated vehicles.
The agency warned that transporting corpses improperly could expose the public to potential health dangers, including the spread of infectious diseases and environmental contamination.
MoFFA further stressed that funeral service providers and individuals involved in handling the dead are expected to follow established safety procedures and ethical guidelines at all times.
The agency said it has begun gathering details surrounding the incident and is working with relevant authorities to investigate the matter further.
It also appealed to stakeholders within the funeral and mortuary sector to maintain professionalism and ensure that deceased persons are treated with respect throughout the handling and burial process.
MoFFA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health standards while promoting responsible practices within Ghana’s death care industry.
