Residents of Meteu and nearby communities in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region have been left isolated after a community bridge collapsed following heavy rainfall on Monday, May 25.
The incident has disrupted transportation between the affected communities, leaving many residents stranded, including schoolchildren who were among the hardest hit.
Reports from the area indicate that flooding caused by the rains severely damaged the Meteu Community Bridge, rendering it unsafe and unusable for residents, commuters and students.
The collapse of the bridge has created major challenges for people who rely on the route to access schools, farms, markets and health facilities.

School pupils were particularly impacted, with several reportedly unable to return home after classes because the route had become inaccessible.
Residents say the situation has increased anxiety within the community, especially for parents worried about their children’s safety as the rains continue.
Community members are now calling on government officials, the district assembly and disaster response agencies to urgently step in and restore access to the affected areas.
