Tanyigbe SHS resumes normal academic activities after ECG restores electricity
Students and staff of Tanyigbe Senior High School in the Ho Municipality can now breathe a sigh of relief after electricity supply to the school was restored following days of darkness caused by storm damage.
The school had been without power since May 22 after a heavy rainstorm accompanied by strong winds brought down a tree onto an electricity pole serving the campus. The incident disrupted power supply across the school and affected several academic activities.
The prolonged outage created difficulties for both students and teachers, especially final-year students preparing for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). With no electricity on campus, many students relied on torchlights and other alternative lighting methods to study during the night.
Operations at the school’s computer laboratory were also affected during the blackout, forcing authorities to temporarily suspend activities at the facility.
Electricity was eventually restored after the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), through its Volta Regional office, intervened to repair the fault and reconnect the school to the national grid.
School authorities expressed gratitude to ECG and other individuals who played roles in resolving the challenge, noting that academic work has now returned to normal.
Management of the school said the restoration of power has brought relief to candidates currently preparing for the ongoing WASSCE, allowing them to continue their studies without further interruptions.
They also commended the response that followed public attention to the issue and appealed for additional support to help improve infrastructure within the school.
Tanyigbe Senior High School serves students from several farming communities in the Ho Municipality, including Klave, Shia, Avee, Nyive, Tokokoe, Atikpui and communities within the Akoefe enclave.
