Ghana and South Korea have signed a landmark Visa Waiver Agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports, in a move seen as a major boost to relations between both countries.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the development in a Facebook post on Monday, June 1, describing it as the first agreement of its kind in nearly 50 years of diplomatic relations between Ghana and South Korea.

The agreement was signed with South Korea’s Foreign Minister Cho Hyun during the Africa–Korea Foreign Ministers Meeting currently underway.
According to Mr Ablakwa, talks are also ongoing to expand the arrangement in future to cover ordinary passport holders as well.

He added that the initiative is part of broader efforts to deepen cooperation between the two countries, following President John Dramani Mahama’s working visit to South Korea in March 2026.
Mr Ablakwa expressed confidence that the agreement will further strengthen diplomatic ties and enhance collaboration between Ghana and South Korea.
