The Government has assured residents in the Greater Kumasi area of the Ashanti Region that ongoing power outages are expected to reduce significantly, as major upgrades to sub-transmission infrastructure are set to be completed by Friday, June 5, 2026.
Speaking on the second day of the Ghana–UK Investment Summit in London on June 2, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, explained that the recurring outages in Kumasi were caused by weak infrastructure, which resulted in localised load shedding despite a stable national electricity supply.
According to the Minister, the government identified the issue soon after taking office and moved to implement emergency measures to address the situation. These interventions included the construction of high-capacity transmission lines and the installation of additional transformers to improve electricity distribution in the area.
Mr. Jinapor revealed that the final stage of the project is almost complete and is expected to be officially handed over later this week.
He expressed optimism that the upgrades would greatly improve power stability in Kumasi and bring relief to households and businesses that have been affected by persistent outages.
