The Fisheries Enforcement Unit (FEU), under the leadership of its Coordinator, Commodore Faustina Anokye Boakye, on Monday morning arrested two inshore fishing operators at the Tema Fishing Harbour.
The arrests were made after the operators were found to be fishing without valid licenses and using unapproved fishing gear.
The suspects were later handed over to the Tema Police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The operation is part of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture’s continued campaign against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, aimed at ensuring strict compliance with fisheries laws and regulations.
The Ministry praised the FEU for its prompt and effective enforcement action, stressing that such operations are essential for safeguarding Ghana’s marine resources and promoting sustainable fishing practices.
It further urged all fishing operators to comply with existing regulations, acquire the necessary licenses, and use approved equipment to help protect and sustainably manage the country’s fisheries sector.
