The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted 12 sacks and 80 parcels of a suspected narcotic substance believed to be Indian hemp during an operation on the Tema–Ada road, resulting in the arrest of a truck driver.
The seizure was made on Sunday, May 31, 2026, by officers from the Tema Highway Patrol Unit during a targeted security operation.
According to a police statement, the suspected drugs were hidden inside a container and wrapped with sellotape in a Hyundai Mighty II container truck.
The driver, identified as Bismark Koprneno, reportedly failed to stop when signaled by officers and attempted to escape arrest. He was later pursued and arrested at Bondase.
“The search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of twelve (12) sacks and eighty (80) parcels of compressed plant materials concealed in a container and wrapped in sellotape,” the statement confirmed.
Preliminary investigations suggest the substances were loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and were being transported to Ada.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while both the vehicle and the seized items have been impounded for further examination.
The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to fighting drug trafficking and other criminal offences in the region.
It also urged the public to support security agencies by providing timely and reliable information on suspicious activities to help combat crime effectively.
