The government of President John Dramani Mahama, through the Ministry of Finance, has approved the release of GH¢76.47 million to support Ghana’s senior national football team, the Ghana national football team.
The funds are intended to ensure the team is well-prepared for the upcoming World Cup while also meeting financial obligations incurred during the qualification campaign.
Of the total amount, GH¢58.9 million (approximately US$5 million) has been earmarked for the Black Stars’ preparations and expenses related to their participation in the tournament’s group stage. The allocation will cover logistics, technical preparations, and other operational requirements ahead of the competition.
A further GH¢17.5 million (about US$1.49 million) has been released to pay outstanding bonuses owed to players and members of the technical team following Ghana’s successful qualification for the World Cup.
The payment is part of an agreement reached during the qualifiers, under which half of the performance bonuses were paid earlier, with the remaining balance becoming payable once the team secured qualification.
According to the government, the funding demonstrates its commitment to providing the Black Stars with the resources needed to compete effectively on the global stage.
Officials believe the financial support will also help maintain stability within the team and boost morale as preparations intensify for the tournament.
The government has therefore called on Ghanaians to continue supporting the Black Stars as they aim to excel at the World Cup.
