The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has teamed up with Ghanaian playwright and motivational speaker Uncle Ebo Whyte to strengthen efforts aimed at combating drug abuse among young people through the creative arts and entertainment sector.
The collaboration was announced after NACOC Director-General Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey and Deputy Director-General for Enforcement, Control and Elimination, Alexander Twum-Barimah, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Executive Officer of Roverman Productions on Friday, June 12.
During the meeting, Brig. Gen. Mantey praised Uncle Ebo Whyte for his contributions to national development through theatre and public engagement and expressed gratitude for his readiness to support the Commission’s anti-drug campaign.
He noted that NACOC values the partnership and believes it will help raise awareness among young people about the dangers of substance abuse.
The Director-General reiterated the Commission’s determination to create effective platforms to discourage the use of illicit drugs, which he said continue to undermine the potential of many young people expected to contribute to the country’s future development.
In response, Uncle Ebo Whyte pledged his full support for the initiative and revealed plans to dedicate portions of his programme on Joy 99.7 FM to discussions on the harmful effects of hard drug use.
He described the growing vulnerability of young people to substance abuse as a serious national concern and called for collective action to address the problem.
Uncle Ebo Whyte also disclosed that he intends to submit a proposal to NACOC outlining additional public engagement initiatives designed to educate citizens on the risks associated with drug trafficking and drug abuse.
