The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in partnership with the J.J. Rawlings Foundation, has announced that its national headquarters will be renamed in honour of former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, alongside the unveiling of a bust to commemorate his legacy.
The activities form part of events scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2026, to mark what would have been the 79th birthday of the late founder of the NDC and former Head of State.
Held under the theme “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy,” the commemorative programme seeks to celebrate Rawlings’ contributions to Ghana’s democratic journey and national development.
In a statement signed by the NDC’s Deputy National Communications Officer, Godwin Ako Gunn, the party announced that the day’s first event will be the official renaming of the party headquarters and the unveiling of Rawlings’ bust at 9:00 a.m.
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to attend the ceremony and deliver remarks, alongside other senior figures of the party.
Later in the day, a lecture and exhibition will take place at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in Accra, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
The keynote address will be delivered by renowned lawyer and academic Tsatsu Tsikata. Other speakers include former Local Government Minister and current Ghana Investment Promotion Centre Board Chairman Dr Akwasi Opong-Fosu, as well as former Information and National Security Minister Kofi Totobi Quakyi.
The NDC and the J.J. Rawlings Foundation have extended an invitation to party members, supporters, cadres, and the general public to participate in the events and celebrate the enduring legacy of the late statesman.
The organisers say the commemoration will honour Rawlings’ life, leadership, and impact on Ghana’s transition from revolutionary governance to constitutional democracy.
