A police operation targeting organised warehouse thefts in the Tema area has led to the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of large quantities of stolen goods linked to two major robbery incidents.
The arrests follow investigations into separate attacks on commercial warehouses in Kpone and Tema Community One, where armed robbers allegedly targeted valuable stock worth hundreds of thousands of cedis.
Police say the first robbery occurred in late May at a fertilizer storage facility in Kpone. During the incident, armed assailants reportedly subdued a security guard before carting away hundreds of bags of organic fertilizer from the warehouse.
Weeks later, another warehouse was targeted in Tema Community One. The attackers allegedly overpowered security personnel and escaped with thousands of bags of rice and other food items stored at the facility.
Following the incidents, investigators launched intelligence-driven operations across the Tema enclave, tracking the movement of the stolen goods and identifying locations believed to be connected to the robberies.
The operation culminated in the arrest of six individuals identified by police as Akala Kudus, Shaibu Dauda, Abdul Rahman Moro, Giya Hudu, Razak Seidu and Francis Ayinsabga.
Searches conducted at various warehouses led to the recovery of substantial quantities of the stolen products. Police retrieved hundreds of bags of fertilizer believed to have been taken from the Kpone warehouse, as well as a significant number of rice bags linked to the Tema Community One robbery.
Authorities have secured the recovered items as evidence while efforts continue to trace the remaining goods believed to be in circulation.
The suspects remain in custody and are assisting investigators with inquiries into the incidents. Police say the investigation is still active and could result in additional arrests as they work to identify other individuals who may have participated in the robberies or handled the stolen merchandise.
The Tema Regional Police Command has meanwhile encouraged businesses to strengthen security arrangements around warehouses and storage facilities, noting that proactive security measures remain critical in protecting valuable goods from criminal activity.
Investigators say they remain committed to ensuring that all those connected to the robberies are brought before the courts.
