The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has instructed publishers, booksellers, schools and other stakeholders to ensure that only officially approved learning materials are used in Ghana’s pre-tertiary schools.
In a public notice issued on Monday, July 6, NaCCA reiterated that, under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), it is the only institution legally authorised to assess, approve and recommend learning materials for use at the pre-tertiary level.
The Council explained that all educational materials intended for schools must undergo its assessment and receive approval before they can be published, marketed, distributed or used in classrooms.
NaCCA also noted that every approved learning material is issued with an official NaCCA Approval QR Code, which enables users to verify its authenticity and approval status.
It therefore urged publishers, schools, booksellers, retailers and the general public to check the QR code before publishing, purchasing, stocking, distributing or using any educational material.
The Council further expressed concern over the unauthorised use of its logo on some learning materials that have not been evaluated or approved.
According to NaCCA, the practice is deceptive, unlawful and constitutes a breach of the law.
It has consequently directed all publishers and individuals involved to immediately stop using the Council’s name, logo, insignia or any other markings that falsely suggest NaCCA approval for unapproved learning materials.
NaCCA warned that anyone who fails to comply with the directive will face the appropriate regulatory and legal sanctions.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the quality and integrity of pre-tertiary education by ensuring that only properly approved learning materials are procured and used in schools.
