Ghana Police seize illegal vehicle sirens, fake horns from thousands of cars

The Ghana Police Service has intercepted 1,054 vehicles in the Greater Accra Region as part of an ongoing nationwide crackdown on the illegal use of sirens, strobe lights, beacon lights, unauthorised horns and unlawful vehicle modifications.

The operation, which commenced on June 15, 2026, is aimed at enforcing the Road Traffic Regulations and improving safety and discipline on the nation’s roads.

In an update posted on its official social media platforms on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the Police said motorists found violating the regulations were educated on the relevant provisions of the law, while unauthorised devices and illegal vehicle modifications were removed and confiscated for further action.

According to the Police, the nationwide exercise has resulted in the interception of 4,627 vehicles since it began.

The Service added that the enforcement campaign will continue across the country as part of efforts to curb traffic violations and ensure greater compliance with the Road Traffic Regulations.
