NDC branch organiser granted GH¢200,000 bail
An Agona West branch organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been granted bail after being charged over a TikTok video containing alleged false and offensive remarks about former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Prince Aboagye, a 39-year-old lotto agent popularly known online as “Atutulagh,” appeared before court and pleaded not guilty to charges of offensive conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and publication of false news.
The court admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 with three sureties, one of whom must provide landed property as justification. The case has been adjourned to August 19.
According to prosecutors, police investigations began after officers detected a video on TikTok in which Aboagye allegedly made untrue and inflammatory claims about Dr Bawumia. The content was said to have the potential to disturb public peace.
Police arrested the accused on July 19. During investigations, he reportedly admitted creating and posting the video on his TikTok account but acknowledged that the claims contained in it were false.
The prosecution says investigations are ongoing as the case proceeds through the courts.
