NDC suspends Awutu Senya East Constituency Chairman over petition by MP Phillis Naa Koryoo

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended Stephen Ofosu Agyare, the party’s Awutu Senya East Constituency Chairman, from office for five months.

The decision follows a petition submitted by the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, and recommendations made by the Central Regional Council of Elders in a letter dated July 20, 2026.

In a letter issued by the party’s headquarters on July 22, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) said it approved the suspension after reviewing the petition and the Council of Elders’ recommendations.

According to the NDC, the FEC, at its meeting on July 21, 2026, found sufficient grounds to invoke Articles 48(4) and 48(6) of the party’s constitution.

As a result, Mr Ofosu Agyare has been suspended from his role with immediate effect for five months.

The party has also referred the matter to the National Disciplinary Committee for a comprehensive investigation and any further action considered necessary under the NDC constitution.

During the suspension, Mr Ofosu Agyare has been directed not to carry out any official responsibilities or exercise the powers of his office until the disciplinary process is completed or the party issues further instructions.

The NDC said copies of the MP’s petition and the report by the Central Regional Council of Elders were attached to the suspension letter and urged the suspended chairman to comply fully with the directive while investigations continue.
