Ghana Navy and Zambia renew defence cooperation to bolster regional security
Ghana and Zambia have renewed efforts to strengthen military cooperation after Zambia’s newly appointed Defence Attaché to Ghana, Colonel Brian Kandiwa Moyo, paid a courtesy call on the Ghana Navy at its headquarters in Accra.
The meeting brought together senior military officials from both countries to discuss ways of expanding existing defence relations and enhancing collaboration in areas that support regional security and development.
Representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, the Chief Staff Officer at Naval Headquarters, Commodore Ben Baba Abdul, welcomed the Zambian envoy and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with Zambia’s defence establishment.
During the engagement, Colonel Moyo conveyed greetings from Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema and expressed his country’s readiness to deepen cooperation with the Ghana Navy. He also lauded the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College for its role in training Zambian military officers and strengthening their leadership and operational capabilities.
The discussions also focused on broadening collaboration beyond military education and training, with both sides highlighting the importance of defence diplomacy in promoting peace and stability across the region.
Commodore Abdul expressed optimism that Colonel Moyo’s tenure would further enhance the longstanding relationship between the two countries and assured him of the Ghana Navy’s support as he assumes his new role.
The visit underscores the growing commitment of Ghana and Zambia to strengthening defence partnerships and advancing collective security objectives in Africa.
