A strange white foamy substance that suddenly appeared along Nigeria’s busy Kaduna-Abuja Expressway has drawn large crowds and triggered an investigation by environmental authorities.
The unusual sight has attracted hundreds of motorists, many of whom have stopped to take photographs and videos before sharing them on social media. The foam’s appearance has fuelled widespread speculation, with some people suggesting it may have resulted from a chemical spill, while others jokingly compared it to snow or clouds falling from the sky.
Nigeria’s National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (Nesrea) has urged the public to stay away from the substance until tests determine exactly what it is and whether it poses any health or environmental risks.

According to the agency, officials have collected samples of the foam, nearby soil and water from a stream close to the scene for laboratory analysis. Preliminary investigations suggest the substance may have spilled from a truck involved in an accident on the highway, although authorities have not yet identified the cargo the vehicle was carrying.
The incident has generated significant public interest, with many travellers expressing concern over the lack of information about the substance’s origin.
Environmental officials say further updates will be provided once laboratory results are completed, while cautioning residents and motorists against touching the foam or coming into contact with potentially contaminated areas nearby.
